Fish Audio, a startup that builds AI voice models for creators and enterprises, has raised $52 million in seed funding. The company announced the milestone on its first anniversary.
The round was led by Coreline Ventures and Capital Today. Other investors include 359 Capital, Play Time, HF0, 645 Ventures, Parable, Carya Venture Partners, and Alphalist Partners, along with angel investors who backed the company early.
From hobby project to 8 million users
Fish Audio started as a hobby project running on a single Nvidia RTX 4090 GPU. Since launching last year, the startup has grown rapidly. According to Fish Audio's blog, more than 8 million people now use either the open source or hosted version of its AI voice models.
The company also generates $21 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR). It currently has 22 people on its team and offers 5 different AI voice models.
What Fish Audio builds
Fish Audio provides text-to-speech technology that converts written text into spoken voice. The company says text-to-speech has been "good enough" for about a decade, but only for single sentences. Fish Audio aims to improve on that by offering more natural and flexible voice models for both individual creators and larger enterprises.
The startup offers both an open source version of its models and a hosted service. This dual approach has helped it attract a wide user base, from hobbyists to businesses.
Our Take: A seed round that looks like a Series A
A $52 million seed round is unusual. Most seed rounds are much smaller. But Fish Audio's numbers explain why investors were willing to write big checks. The company has 8 million users and $21 million in ARR — all within one year of launching. That kind of growth is rare.
The fact that Fish Audio started as a hobby project on a single GPU also shows how fast AI voice technology has evolved. What was once a side project is now a business with serious revenue and backing from top venture firms.
For creators and enterprises, this means more competition in the AI voice space. More funding usually leads to better products and lower prices. That is good news for anyone who wants to use AI-generated voices for content, customer service, or other applications.
To put it plainly: Fish Audio is not just another AI startup. It has the users, the revenue, and now the capital to become a major player in the voice AI market.
