The Finance and Contract Committee (FCC) of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has given the green light to 26 development projects worth Rs 171 crore. The approval came during the committee's ninth meeting, which was chaired by Mayor Rajrani Malhotra at the Municipal Corporation office.
What the Rs 171 Crore Will Fund in Gurugram
The approved projects focus on strengthening basic infrastructure across the city. According to The Tribune, the works include construction and reconstruction of roads, expansion of drinking water and sewerage networks, and storm water drainage systems.
The plan also covers strengthening the electrical system, installing CCTV cameras in Sadar Bazar, and setting up technology-based water management systems.
Focus on Long-Pending Basic Facilities
The committee gave priority to basic facilities that have been pending in various city wards for nearly a decade. These include drinking water supply, sewer lines, rainwater drainage, and road reconstruction.
According to Hindustan Times, the projects aim to address infrastructure gaps that residents have been demanding for years.

In our view, this approval is a positive move for Gurugram. The city has long struggled with basic issues like water supply, drainage, and road conditions. Allocating Rs 171 crore specifically for these problems shows that the civic body is listening to residents' concerns.
However, the real test will be in execution. Many infrastructure projects in Indian cities get approved but face delays due to bureaucracy or funding issues. The MCG must ensure that these 26 projects are completed on time and with proper quality. Residents who have waited nearly a decade for basic amenities deserve nothing less.
