New Sci-Fi Short Beacon Blends VFX and Emotion

As India's new generation of independent filmmakers continues to gain international recognition, filmmaker Raj Sagar is preparing to release Beacon, an ambitious science fiction short that blends visual effects, 3D animation, and emotionally driven storytelling. Currently in post-production, the film is expected to premiere later this year.

Driven by a lifelong fascination with science fiction, Sagar conceived Beacon as a project that would seamlessly merge cinematic storytelling with advanced visual effects.

Among the film's international cast is Italian actress Marie Nives Ellecosta, whose portrayal of Judy is expected to leave a lasting impression. Judy is a brilliant, rebellious woman who challenges authority and becomes the catalyst for the story's central conflict. With her magnetic screen presence, emotional truth, and distinctive Italian stature, Marie Nives brings a rare combination of intensity and elegance to the role. Her performance balances vulnerability with quiet determination, allowing Judy to emerge as one of the film's most compelling and memorable characters.

Raj Sagar explains that Marie was always his first choice for the role, having collaborated with her on several previous productions.

"Marie brings a natural authenticity to every performance and immediately understood the emotional core of the character," says Sagar. "She always arrives on set knowing the character inside and out. Because she is so prepared and fully immersed in the role, we have the freedom to experiment, improvise, and discover new moments during filming." The filmmaker also credits their established creative relationship for elevating the production.

"Working with Marie has always been an enjoyable and rewarding experience. She's incredibly professional, dedicated, and open to trying new ideas."

For Marie Nives, Beacon marks another significant chapter in an international career that continues to bridge European artistry and American independent cinema. Based in New York, the Italian actress has earned a reputation for meticulous preparation, emotionally nuanced performances, and a versatility that allows her to move confidently between drama, thriller, horror, and science fiction.

The collaboration between Raj Sagar and Marie Nives also reflects the increasingly global nature of independent filmmaking, where artists from different cultures come together to create stories that transcend borders. As Indian filmmakers expand their international footprint, partnerships like this demonstrate the creative possibilities that emerge when talent is united by a shared cinematic vision.
