A Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) has allegedly jumped into a canal after accusing seven people of blackmailing and harassing him. The incident has sparked a search operation and a police case against those named.
ASI Jumps Into Canal After Recording Video Alleging Harassment
Gurdial Singh (55), an ASI posted on emergency duty at Makhu block in Ferozepur district, allegedly jumped into the Ferozepur Feeder canal near Bangali Bridge at Harike on Thursday morning. According to The Tribune, his body has not yet been recovered.
Before taking the extreme step, Singh recorded a video in which he accused seven individuals of blackmailing and harassing him. The video reportedly shows him naming the accused and detailing his allegations.
Police Register Case Against Seven Accused Named in Video
Following the incident, police launched a search operation to trace Singh's body. They also registered a case against all seven persons named in the video. According to India Today, the accused are Ramandeep Singh, Amandeep Singh, Charanjeet Kaur, Santosh Singh, Pyara Lal, Vikramjeet Singh and Jyoti.
In the video, Gurdial alleged that the accused had indulged in character assassination by circulating fabricated content about him. The nature of the blackmail and harassment has not been fully detailed in public reports, but the police have taken the allegations seriously enough to file a case.
Search Operation Underway for Missing ASI
Authorities are continuing efforts to locate Singh's body in the canal. The Ferozepur Feeder canal is a large waterway, and rescue teams are using boats and divers to search the area near Bangali Bridge at Harike.
