Chandigarh Police have arrested four men in connection with the brutal mob killing of a 31-year-old man at Mauli Jagran. This is the second major breakthrough for the police in just 24 hours, following the arrest of two suspects in the Sector 11 pharmacy cashier murder case.
Police Action in Mauli Jagran Mob Killing
The arrests in the Mauli Jagran case were carried out by a team from the Mauli Jagran police station. Senior officers from the Sub-Division North-East supervised the operation, according to police officials.
According to The Tribune, the police action came a day after they announced a breakthrough in the Sector 11 case. The combined tally of arrests across both high-profile murder cases now stands at six.
Sector 11 Pharmacy Cashier Murder Case
In the Sector 11 case, two accused — Sunny Mehra and Aryan Sharma — are already in custody. Both are recovering from gunshot injuries they sustained on Thursday.
According to Hindustan Times, the police had earlier arrested two individuals from Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district in connection with the Sector 11 chemist shop shooting. The key accused in that case remains on the run.
Our Take: Swift Action Restores Confidence
Chandigarh Police's quick response in cracking both the Mauli Jagran mob killing and the Sector 11 murder case within 24 hours is commendable. In our view, this demonstrates effective coordination and a clear message that law enforcement will not tolerate violent crime. However, the fact that a mob killing occurred at all raises serious questions about public safety and community vigilance. The police must now ensure that the evidence gathered leads to strong convictions, so that justice is served for the victims and their families.
