A man from Panipat shot and killed two men — his uncle in Punjab and his friend in Haryana — in a single day. The accused then dumped both bodies near a canal before trying to flee, but police caught him hours later.
How the Double Murder Unfolded
According to The Tribune, the accused first killed his uncle at Dera Bassi in Punjab's Mohali district. He then placed the body in a Tata Safari and drove to Panipat, where he killed his friend. After both murders, he threw the bodies near a canal in Samalkha, Panipat, and fled the scene.
Police Arrest Within Hours
The Special Anti-Gangster Unit of Sonepat Police tracked down the accused near Bhigan Toll Plaza on National Highway-44 at midnight. They nabbed him and handed him over to Panipat Police. Punjab Police also arrived at the scene. The bodies have been sent to Civil Hospital, Panipat, for post-mortem examination.
Victims and Accused Identified
The deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Rahul Malik, who ran a business in Dera Bassi, and 25-year-old Ankush of Panipat. The accused has been identified as Sahil Malik of Model Town, Panipat.
Our Take: Swift Police Work Matters
This case shows how quickly law enforcement can act when they coordinate across state lines. The accused committed murders in two different states — Punjab and Haryana — yet police caught him within hours. In our view, this sends a strong message that criminals cannot escape justice by moving between states. The public should feel reassured that the police response was fast and effective.
