Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini visited the D-Park market in Rohtak on Monday to meet shopkeepers whose establishments were destroyed in a fire that broke out on June 9. He expressed deep sorrow over the incident and announced financial relief for the affected traders from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Relief Package for Rohtak Fire Victims
According to The Tribune, the Chief Minister announced that owners of the affected footwear shops and the general store will receive Rs 5 lakh each. Two fruit juice shops will get Rs 2 lakh each, and three other units — a food kiosk and two carts — will receive Rs 50,000 each.
The Haryana government also announced Rs 10 lakh each for the families of those who lost their lives in the fire. The Chief Minister visited the residences of the deceased and offered condolences to the bereaved families, as per the Haryana PRMS press release.
Government Stands with Affected Families
"The government stands firmly with the families and traders affected by the devastating fire," Saini said, as reported by The Tribune. While acknowledging that no compensation can replace the loss of human life, he assured that the state government would extend every possible support to those impacted.
The Chief Minister also assessed the damage to the shops at the D-Park site and interacted with the affected traders to understand their losses.
Our Take: Swift Action Offers Some Relief
In our view, the Haryana government's quick response in announcing financial relief is commendable. The visit by CM Saini to the site and the homes of the deceased shows a personal touch that victims and their families need in such tragic times. However, the amounts announced — while helpful — cannot fully compensate for the loss of lives and livelihoods. The real test will be in how quickly and transparently this relief reaches the affected families and traders. We hope the government follows through with its promise of full support.
