NIT-Kurukshetra is holding a specialised three-day workshop focused on the mental health and professional resilience of its faculty members. The workshop, titled "Mental Wellbeing of Faculty (MWB 2026)", is being organised by the Office of the Dean (Student Welfare) and the Centre of Excellence for Holistic Personality Development (CHPD) at the institute.
Workshop Details and Organisers
The workshop is scheduled from July 20 to 22. Professor Vikas Choudhary, head of CHPD and convener of the workshop, reiterated the institute's commitment towards a healthy academic environment. The event is designed to address the mental wellbeing of faculty, recognising the pressures and challenges they face in their professional roles.
Expert-Led Sessions on Mental Health
Geeta Mehrotra, a senior master trainer in life skills development, resilience building, and positive mental health, is leading the sessions. She held interactive sessions on topics including "Life Skills Approach to Promoting Positive Mental Health, Resilience and Wellbeing in HEIs" and "Emotional..." — focusing on practical strategies for faculty to manage stress and build resilience.
According to Newswav, the workshop aims to equip faculty members with tools to maintain their own mental health while supporting students effectively.
Our Take: A Necessary Step for Academic Wellbeing
In our view, this workshop is a timely and necessary initiative. Faculty members in higher education institutions often face immense pressure — from teaching loads, research expectations, and administrative duties. Their mental health directly impacts the quality of education and student support. By focusing on resilience and life skills, NIT-Kurukshetra is acknowledging that a healthy academic environment starts with the wellbeing of its teachers. We hope other institutions follow this example.
