The flood situation in Assam remains serious as the death toll has risen to 68. Two more people drowned in floodwaters in Charaideo district over the past 24 hours, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
More than 5.24 lakh people are still affected across five districts — Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon and Sivasagar. The numbers come from the latest ASDMA report.
Charaideo remains the worst-hit district in Assam floods
Charaideo continues to bear the brunt of the floods. Nearly 1.9 lakh people in the district have been impacted. Sivasagar follows with more than 1.5 lakh affected, while Jorhat has around 1.4 lakh people facing the deluge.
According to The Hindu, the overall flood situation showed signs of improvement on Sunday compared to Saturday, when nearly 6.55 lakh people were affected.
